Dodge-Jefferson County Youth Beekeepers Announced

(Dodge) Two Dodgeland School District students have been chosen by the Dodge-Jefferson County Beekeepers Association to be Youth Beekeeping recipients for 2019.  Mikayla Justmann and Brock Roy will be sponsored with equipment, hive components, and live bees to install and care for during the 2019 beekeeping season.  Each will be assigned mentors to assist them and share their beekeeping experience.

Mikayla Justmann, of Juneau, is a 7th grader at Dodgeland Middle School and a member of the River Oaks 4-H Club. Mikayla says her goal is to learn as much as she can about honey bees and keep them alive through next year.

Brock Roy, of Juneau, is an 11th grader at Dodgeland High School and a member of the Dodgeland FFA.  Brock says he recognizes the importance of honey bees as pollinators in the environment and his primary goal is to produce a decent crop of honey.

This is the Dodge-Jefferson County Beekeepers Association’s fifth year of sponsoring youth beekeeping.  The club promotes the use of honey and hive products while providing fellowship and networking opportunities with beekeepers and the agriculture industry at large.
