(Juneau) The Dodge County treasurer is providing some details on lottery credits in the midst of tax season. The Wisconsin Lottery and Gaming Credit provides direct property tax relief to qualifying taxpayers.
The lottery credit is displayed on tax bills as a reduction of property taxes due. Treasurer Patti Hilker says it is the time of year to review your tax bill and see if you did or did not get the lottery credit. She says to check, look on the top right of your tax bill.
Hilker says the lottery credit is administered by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. She notes that in order to qualify, a property owner must be a Wisconsin resident and use the dwelling as their primary residence as of January 1st in a given year. A property owner may only claim one credit.
Hilker says if you did not receive the lottery credit but were eligible, you must file a late claim application with the Department of Revenue by October 1st. Forms are available online or call the Dodge County Treasurer’s Office 920-386-3782.
