(Dodge County) Officials with the Dodge County Traffic Safety Commission are reminding motorists to implement safe winter driving practices. Safety tips include driving at a safe and legal speed, planning ahead, driving alert and sober as well as buckling up. Dodge County Traffic Safety Coordinator Joel Kiesow says winter weather is here and with the first snowfall brings slippery driving conditions and the potential for more accidents. Kiesow says avoid driving on roads that are treacherous, remove ice and snow from windows, lights and mirrors, slow down on ice and snow, stay focused, avoid using cruise control in winter conditions and stay at least 200 feet behind snowplows. He adds that winter driving can be extremely dangerous. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, approximately 41 people are killed and almost 3,400 are injured in crashes in icy or snow-covered roads in the state. Kiesow suggests checking www.511wi.gov for the latest traffic and road conditions.
