(Beaver Dam) Donations are still being accepted for this year’s Dodge County Toy Bank effort. The Toy Bank is in its 57th year of serving local families with the goal of providing all area children with a Christmas gift. Shirley Kitchen is with the Toy Bank and shares the group’s history.
“Well, it started, believe it or not, 57 years ago in 1965,” Kitchen says. “The two members at that time, the Bank One, started it at the bank. And from the beginning, the toy bank, the goal has been, even back then, was to make sure that every child has at least one gift.”
Donated toys are housed in the basement of American Bank in Beaver Dam, where some of the “shopping” takes place. If you are unable to drop off toys there, Kitchen says there are also several locations throughout the area.
“All the American Bank locations downtown, on Spring Street and on Francis Lane and Walmart,” said Kitchen. “Edward Jones, Andrew Mehan in Juneau, also the Dollar General in Juneau, National Exchange Bank here in Beaver Dam, Invenergy in Brownville. Key West Tanning Salon and Spa, Lidtke Motors, Shoe Sensation. Slumberland has a tree up, like they’ve had for a long time, so you can take an ornament and help that way. YMCA and Horicon Bank.”
Those who cannot drop off toys at the American Bank in Beaver Dam or the locations listed, can contact the Dodge County Toy Bank on Facebook, by email, or visit their website. Toy delivery is Saturday December 10th.
