Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Is Partnering With Area Police Departments To Conduct Seatbelt Enforcement

(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office will be teaming up with multiple police agencies for a seatbelt enforcement initiative. Through next September, Beaver Dam, Horicon, Mayville and the Lomira Police Departments will be out on Dodge County roadways conducting high-visibility enforcement. The campaign was due in part to the task force receiving $38,160 in grant funding from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Carmen Micale says drivers need to ensure that everyone is buckled up, every seat, every trip, before hitting the road. Micale says traffic related deaths and injuries do not only affect your family, they affect everyone’s. In 2017, nearly 47-percent of the drivers and passengers killed in Wisconsin traffic crashes were not wearing their safety belts. In Wisconsin, law enforcement officers can stop and issue a citation to motorists for failing to wear a safety belt. They can also issue a citation to drivers for each passanger in a vehicle that fails to wear a seatbelt.
