(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff is touting the usefulness of his agency’s new command vehicle acquired just months ago. The department originally quoted out $1.4-million-dollars to purchase a new command vehicle, which Sheriff Dale Schmidt says they did not end up doing. He notes that their current vehicle was purchased at $87-thousand-dollars from an agency in Green Bay.
A portion of a $400-thousand-dollar grant the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office received to upgrade its backup dispatch center will be used to help outfit the vehicle. The sheriff says the command vehicle has already been in use multiple times.
“We had it out for a couple incidents here already with negotiations that have had to take place with individuals that posed a risk,” says Schmidt. “It has a great location for our negotiators to privately have those conversations but still relay information on to first responders so we can get things taken care of.”
Schmidt says the vehicle was also used during the recent Beaver Dam Fire Department training accident on Beaver Dam Lake. He adds that they were able to utilize the command vehicle to keep the firefighters warm, make plans effectively, and light up the scene.
