Dodge County Sheriff Testifies On Emergency Transport Law Change

(Madison) Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt calls it “an epidemic,” — law enforcement officers transporting people who are being held for emergency detentions to the state’s mental health facilities in Madison and Oshkosh. He says emergency detentions by far take up the most time of any incident they deal with on a daily basis. Schmidt testified Tuesday in support of a bill clarifying that law enforcement can contract with another law enforcement agency, an ambulance service provider, or a third-party vendor to aid in transports.
