Dodge County Sheriff Offers Testimony Capitol On Strengthening OWI Laws

(Dodge County) Five hours of testimony taking place at the State Capitol Wednesday for bills that would strengthen Wisconsin’s drunk driving laws. The 11 proposals include making a first OWI offense a misdemeanor, a mandatory five-year sentence for killing someone while driving drunk, and closing a loophole that allows for multiple first OWIs due to using different vehicles. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt was among those offering testimony at the capitol. A committee vote on the bills is expected later this month.
