(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff is shining a light on the importance of vehicle insurance in his law of the month column. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says now is the time of year where there are fewer daylight hours and cooler weather, which means deer are traveling more and a higher likelihood of an accident. With temperature drops, the roads may get slick at times which could cause a vehicle collision. Schmidt say these are just two of the many reasons that it is important to have liability insurance. In Wisconsin, drivers are required to have liability insurance as well as proof in the vehicle. People can show proof in the form of a card or if the insurance company has an app. Schmidt says if a person does not have proof on them they can receive a citation of $10. It is a $250 citation if they do not have insurance, which Schmidt says is more than it would cost to just simply get insurance. The sheriff says even if an individual feels that they are a good driver, it does not mean you do not need insurance.
