Dodge County Sheriff Details CART Team

(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff is detailing the workings of his department’s CART team. CART stands for Child Abduction Response Team. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says in addition to members of his own agency the team also consists of personnel from other entities throughout the county including police departments from Beaver Dam, Brownsville, Juneau, among others. It is also made up of members of area fire departments and emergency management officials.

Schmidt says the team has gone through trainings to be able to investigate abducted and missing children. He says the team is not just utilized to search for abducted children they also help find missing kids who may have wondered off.

Schmidt says they start by getting information about the child, their family, where they live, where they could be going, or places where they like to frequent. He says using their resources, can narrow down where a missing child could be. Schmidt says they have detectives who conduct interviews, they look into area sex offenders to see if they played a part. He says they want to look at all possible scenarios early because these situations develop rapidly and they need to follow up on all leads.

The sheriff’s office CART team most recently aided in the search for a missing three-year-old in Beaver Dam last month. The child was located safe and quickly reunited with his family.
