Dodge County Sheriff Comments on Impact of DA Resignation

(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff is weighing in on the vacancies in the District Attorney’s Office. D-A Kurt Klomberg resigned this month while citing a statewide understaffing of prosecutors along with challenges in Juneau related to retirements and personal leave. We asked Sheriff Dale Schmidt this week on WBEV’s Community Comment how the D-A’s resignation is impacting his office.
“It doesn’t,” says Schmidt. “We have different people we have to contact. At the end of the day, we are still going to be arresting those people who need to be arrested, we’re going to refer those individuals into the DA’s office who need to be referred. We are not going to change the way we do business in Dodge County.”
Schmidt says that crime won’t get a break either.
“Crime will not get a break from law enforcement in Dodge County because our DA is facing challenges,” Schmidt.
In addition, the sheriff says that Dodge County citizens have no need to fear that criminals will be roaming the street via bail or otherwise.
