7/14/11 – A motorcycle accident in the western part of the state last week seriously injured two Dodge County residents. It happened on Thursday around 5pm in St. Croix County. 50-year-old Joseph Westra of Fox Lake was riding a motorcycle southbound on Highway 65 and was passing vehicles that had stopped for a car turning onto a county road. Authorities say a northbound truck was making a left turn to go westbound when the motorcycle hit the front of the truck in the intersection. The impact sent Westra and his passenger, 45-year-old Wendi Hechimovich of Mayville, flying from the motorcycle. Deputies say neither Westra nor Hechimovich were wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The two were transported to a hospital in Minnesota in critical condition. Hospital officials say they are no longer at the facility. St. Croix Sheriff John Shiltz tells us the accident in under review by the investigating deputy and the District Attorney to decide on any possible charges.
