Dodge County Residents Can Test Broadband Speeds With New Tool

(Juneau) Dodge County officials are highlighting a tool to test broadband speeds. The Madison Region Economic Partnership recently announced their broadband Speed Test initiative with the goal of showing participants their internet speeds while collecting necessary data to pursue better broadband infrastructure.

The groups President and CEO Jason Fields says access to broadband is vital for economic success. He says that this is an infrastructure issue that has been affecting underserved areas in both urban and rural communities for too long.

Dodge County has begun steps to increase broadband coverage throughout the area and recently started a feasibility study. The study will analyze existing broadband assets, including those offered by local telecom service providers, cable companies and government organizations that provide communication services through schools and first responders. It is anticipated to be completed by the end of this month.

The county has also hired Design Nine, a firm that specializes in broadband planning, to develop recommendations and a strategic road map for better service in the region. A link to the broadband speed test tool is available at http://madisonregion.org/industry-and-innovation/broadband/
