Dodge County On Second Recruitment Attempt To Fill Open Finance Director Position

(Juneau) Dodge County’s search for a new administrator comes as they are trying to fill a key departmental opening. Former finance director David Ehlinger resigned in March after being hired in 2019. Ehlinger cited long commutes as his reason for leaving and took a job closer to home as finance director for the city of Stoughton.

Administrator Jim Mielke told the Executive Committee Monday that recruitment efforts began immediately but they came across issues finding interested applicants. He says this is the first time in his 13 years with the county that a high-level recruitment effort yielded no interested applicants.

Mielke says the county has entered into its second recruitment attempt to find its next finance director. He adds that Dodge County is not alone in its struggles to fill the position. Mielke notes that Winnebago County is on their second recruitment attempt to find their next finance director.

Dodge County also hired Public Administration Associates to aid in their search. Officials with the firm say there are two current applicants, but both are not being considered for interviews. They add that they have spent more on recruiting for Dodge County’s finance director than they have ever spent on advertising for any other position.
