Dodge County Manhunt Ends, Suspect In Custody

(Horicon) The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has apprehended a wanted man. According to a press release, Richard Erdman was taken into custody at 8:58pm “after information was received.”

It all started around 8:30am Thursday when sheriff’s deputies were attempting to make contact with the Fond du Lac man at the Royal Oaks Motel just outside Horicon . Sheriff Dale Schmidt says the 35-year-old, who is wanted for multiple felony warrants, fled the motel and disappeared into an adjacent marsh.

A perimeter was established and the Wisconsin State Patrol deployed their aircraft equipped with cameras to assist. During the search, media aircraft in the area hindered the safe operation of the state patrol and they were forced to abandon their search. Schmidt says his office and other agencies utilized drone technology to comb the area for Erdman along with K9 units. Due to the marshy and wet terrain, law enforcement was unable to locate the suspect and the search was called off. Schmidt said Erdman was not a threat to the public.

Assisting the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office was the Wisconsin Emergency Management, Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Horicon Police Department, Beaver Dam Police Department, Columbus Fire Department, Horicon Fire Department, Watertown Fire Department and the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office.
