(Juneau) A Huber inmate has made his initial appearance in court on charges he failed to return to the Dodge County jail from a pre-approved medical appointment. Austin Odebrecht is facing a felony count of Escape as well as a misdemeanor charge of Resisting. Odebrecht had requested to visit the Beaver Dam hospital Monday (November 16th) for tooth pain. Correctional staff contacted the hospital after Odebrecht had failed to return to the jail and they reportedly said the 21-year-old had checked out several hours earlier. Sheriff’s deputies checked Odebrecht’s residence in Reeseville the following morning and reportedly located him hiding in a gap between the bathroom wall and the home’s outer wall. Odebrecht was serving an eight month jail sentence for a felony theft conviction. If convicted on the escape charge, Odebrecht faces a six year prison sentence. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 23rd.
