Dodge County Health Officials Encourage Public To Stay Home For Thanksgiving

(Juneau) Dodge County health officials are encouraging the public to celebrate Thanksgiving while keeping family and friends healthy. Wisconsin has surpassed record high numbers for confirmed positive cases, deaths and hospitalization rates throughout November. In Dodge County, that has translated into more than 100 new community cases of COVID–19 each day.

County Health Officer Abby Sauer says the message for Thanksgiving will likely be the same one recommended for Christmas and the New Year’s holiday: Stay Home. She says she understands that it is difficult to do especially around the holidays. Sauer encourages the community to celebrate Thanksgiving with only those who live in a single home and avoid travelling which increases the spread of the virus.

During a recent appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment, Sauer said there are other alternatives for families to enjoy time together such as meeting up virtually on platforms including Zoom, Google Meets or Facetime. She also suggests shopping online rather than in person as well as watching sports events, parades and movies from home.
