(Theresa) A Dodge County business was the recent recipient of a Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection diary processor grant. The purpose of the grant is to help foster innovation, improve profitability, and sustain the long-term viability of Wisconsin’s diary processing facilities.
Widmer’s Cheese Cellars, which is located in Theresa, was one of seven dairy companies receiving funds. The business is planning to use the money to help with a planned expansion.
State officials say dairy processors can begin applying for the next round of grant funds. A total of $200,000 is available as part of the biennial budget. Eligible applicants must operate a licensed dairy processing plant in Wisconsin that is engaged in pasteurizing, processing, or manufacturing milk or dairy products.
Funding from these grants can be used to address a wide range of dairy business needs such as food safety, staff training, plant expansion or modernization, and professional consulting services. The application window is January 17th.
