(Juneau) The Dodge County Board heard an update this month on the progress of the Gold Star Memorial Trail. The ten-foot wide paved trail – so named to honor local fallen veterans – extends two miles from Mayville Theiler Park to the Horicon Marsh Visitor Center, running along County Highway TW and State Highway 28. The next phase of the project will bring the trail from Horicon to Beaver Dam. Parks and Land Development Director Bill Ehlenbeck presented five different options to the board that are being considered. Those include using County Trunk Highway B or E, Prospect Road, Highway 33 and the Wisconsin and Southern Railroad corridor. Ehlenbeck says they did receive a grant from the Greater Watertown Community Health Foundation and the Beaver Dam Hospital Foundation for a feasibility study. The goal of the study is to find which route works best or that maybe a combination of all four may be utilized to accomplish connecting the trail from Horicon to Beaver Dam.
