DNR Says Opening Days of Gun Deer Season Successful

(Wisconsin) This year’s opening weekend of the gun-deer season saw bigger numbers when compared to 2021. According to the Department of Natural Resources, the first days of the nine-day hunt saw a 15-percent increase from last year. That equates to 102,347 deer taken compared to 85,860 last year. This year’s initial harvest saw 55,503 bucks registered compared with 47,529 last year. Closer to home, Dodge County saw a significant increase with 2,563 deer taken this year compared to 1,030 last year. Similarly, Columbia County saw an increase from 1,612 harvested last year to 3,858. Fond du Lac posted 2336 deer taken and Green Lake County also showed an increase with 2,195 registered deer. Hunters in Jefferson County brought down 1,907 combined antler and antlerless deer while Washington County saw 1,842 deer harvested.
