DNR Releases Preliminary Gun Deer Numbers

(Dodge County) Gun deer licenses were down two percent this year compared to last year. That according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources which says that 564-thousand licenses were sold through the end of the nine-day season that wrapped up Sunday, compared to 576-thousand in 2018.

Preliminary figures show a huge drop in the deer harvest with 160,769 registered this year, a decrease of over 53-thousand deer from the 213,972 registered last year.

In Dodge County, there were 2209 deer harvested this year compared to 2705 last year, a decrease of 18-percent.

Columbia County hunters registered 3160, a drop of 21-percent from last year’s 4029.

Jefferson County reported 1424 deer taken, a 21-percent decline from last year’s 1795.

Washington County registered 1208 this year compared to 1659 last year, down 27-percent.

Fond du Lac County dropped 22-percent with 2095 animals this year after registering 2702 in 2018.
