A lot gets wasted during the holidays – and the Wisconsin D-N-R is encouraging folks to do what they can to be more efficient. The federal government says the amount of household waste jumps by 25-percent from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve. A lot of it is from decorations that waste energy – plus the larger amounts of leftover food, disposable plates, packaging, and gift wrap that get thrown away. The D-N-R encourages folks to keep washing their dishes and silverware, replace old holiday lights with today’s more energy-efficient items, and divvy up those leftovers among visitors. They also say we could be a little greener in our giving. The D-N-R suggests gift cards, wrapping presents with newspapers and recycled paper, and saving gift boxes and bows so they can be used again.
