8/8/17 – The Beaver Dam School Board last night approved the hiring of a new superintendent. Meeting in special session, the board voted unanimously to offer the position to Mark DiStefano, who accepted. DiStefano had been principal of the high school for six years before being promoted to Human Resources Director in 2015. He says it is an honor to be named superintendent and is excited to get going. DiStefano says he will have big shoes to fill with Steve Vessey stepping down and that he has been a friend and mentor to him. Vessey announced his resignation last month after seven years helming the district. He is leaving his 21-year career in education to take a job in the financial sector. Vessey’s last day will be November 1, which he says will allow enough time for a stable transition. Vessey says knowing that DiStefano was willing to accept the challenge and open to the advancement made it easy for him to walk away from the district at this time. He says Beaver Dam will be in good shape. DiStefano will begin his tenure as superintendent on September 2. He says the now vacant human resources position is critical for the district moving forward and that they have time to work through a plan. DiStefano says there will be more concrete details over the coming months.
