Deputies Respond To Multiple Water Rescue Calls Over Weekend

(Friendship) A pontoon boat ride Sunday on Lake Winnebago near the Town of Friendship lead to a multi-departmental search and rescue effort after bottoming out and sinking.  Seven of the nine occupants of the vessel had made it to nearby Fraction Island.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, along with the DNR began searching for the two remaining who were later located safe on nearby Long Point Island.  No injuries were reported.

The Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Office responded to a pair of water rescue calls Monday on Lake Winnebago.  The first was an assist call with Calumet County where a sailboat had capsized.

Deputies were able to right the vessel with the occupant refusing medical attention.  The second call came just before 9pm when they responded to reports of a canoe that had flipped over with a male hanging to the side.  Upon arrival it was determined that the male had been picked up by a pontoon boat and was being transported to shore.

The 42 year old Oshkosh man jumped from the pontoon boat refusing to come to deputies, who entered the lake and pulled the man to shore.  The Subject refused medical treatment and was taken into custody charged with Operating a Boat while Intoxicated, Resisting Arrest, and felony Bail Jumping.
