Delma L. Schwandt

Delma L. Schwandt, 89, of Kasson, Minnesota and formerly of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at the Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, MN.

A visitation for Delma will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam.  A funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Philip Heyer officiating.  Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in the township of Trenton, Wisconsin.

Delma was born in Portage on February 7, 1932, the daughter of Edward and Carol (Sutfin) Schmidt.  She was a graduate of Portage High School.  Delma married Hilbert Schwandt on June 4, 1955 and together they worked their dairy farm near Reeseville until they semi-retired in 1983 and moved to Beaver Dam. She then worked part-time as a homemaker/aide for the Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

Delma was a member of St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.  After her husband Hilbert’s death, Delma moved to Minnesota to be close to her son Randy and beloved daughter-in-law Valerie. Even a state away from other family and friends, Delma’s sweet demeanor ensured she quickly made and maintained many friendships in her new home.

Delma was an animal lover, and especially loved the dogs and birds that she cared for throughout the years, most recently her Pekingese Tootsie and her cockatiel Pretty Bird.

Delma is survived by her son Randall (Valerie) Schwandt of Kasson, Minnesota; grandchildren: Megan (Mike) Stanton of Aberdeen, SD and Tony (Elizabeth) Schwandt of St. Paul, MN.  She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hilbert in 2005, her brother Francis Schmidt in 2019, and her son Stephen in infancy.

Special thanks to Rachel and Matt for your invaluable assistance in providing care for Delma, your kindness and friendship toward her, and for all the doggie visits.

Memorial donations may be directed to St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.
