(Mayville) Applications are now available for hunters with disabilities looking to take part in the fall deer hunt this year. The hunt which takes place on a 936-acre area of the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge will allow hunters the opportunity to hunt during two of the 9 scheduled hunting sessions including one for archery/crossbow and another for muzzleloader. Hunters will be allowed to have one assistant with them, with the assistant being allowed to hunt during all but the October scheduled hunts. There is no fee for disabled hunters to take part in this program, but assistants must apply for and pay $10 to take part in the hunt. Applications for this year’s hunts are due prior to each hunt, but the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service says hunters shouldn’t delay as slots are limited and first choice on dates will go to those whose applications are received first.
Hunt dates are:
October 19-27 (Archery/Crossbow)
November 29- December 1
December 2-11 (Muzzleloader)
