DECEMBER 14TH: BOUILLABAISSE and MONKEY (bread)

Monkey Bread

3 tubes buttermilk biscuits

½ c. granulated sugar

1 tsp. cinnamon

¾ c. brown sugar

1 stick butter

Mix sugar & cinnamon in shallow bowl. Quarter biscuit dough and roll in cinnamon/sugar mixture. Place dough pieces in greased angel food cake pan. Bring brown sugar and butter to a boil in small saucepan. Boil for 1 minute. Pour over dough. Bake in 350° oven for 25-30 minutes. Let cool 2-3 minutes. Invert onto serving plate and serve warm.

This was the featured “staple” and always requested breakfast treat at almost every “Murphy” sleepover! It’s been a favorite for over twenty-five years at our house and is always on the menu when my children now come home to visit during the holidays. (The trick is to boil the brown sugar/butter mixture for 1 minute only).

NOTE: Buttermilk Biscuits are no longer sold in a four pack (with 8 pieces/tube) so I buy the jumbo two-pack and use 2 1/2 tubes. I make regular biscuits with the 5-6 leftovers.
