DCSO Warning Of Scam Involving Their Department

(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scam claiming to be a lieutenant with the department calling about a missed appointment. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says the scammer calls themselves Lieutenant Ware and claim that money is needed to be paid to keep that person out of jail. Schmidt says there is no Lieutenant Ware that works for the sheriff’s office, and they will never demand money over the phone as a means to keep someone out of jail. The sheriff says if you ever receive a phone call like this, you can always ask the caller for their full name and badge number. Then call the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number independently at 920-386-3726 and confirm the identity of that sheriff’s office employee and that they are in fact calling from the sheriff’s office. Schmidt says scams continue to be a huge problem across the country, and they will always work with citizens to make sure they know if a person claiming to call from the sheriff’s office is legitimate.
