DCSO Highlighting Rave Alerts

(Juneau) Officials with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management are highlighting a feature available on Smart911. When signing up for free service, citizens can also opt-in for Rave Alert. The system will send out timely and actionable emergency alerts including water contamination alerts, missing persons, evacuation notices and routes, fires or floods, bomb threats, a hostage situation, chemical spills or gas leaks and non-emergency situations. The alerts can be sent via email, text or voice message to your cellphone. When registering for Smart911, you can also decide how much information you want provided which is stored on the programs secure online system. With the Smart911 program, people can link both home and work addresses to mobile phones which can be passed on to responders in the field for a more detailed, rapid response. Additional information including pets in the home, vehicle details and even emergency contacts can be added to the safety profile. Mobile phones currently do not provide an address to the 911 call taker. Schmidt says emergency situations are often the worst moments of a person’s life and the safety profile can speak for you when you might be unable. Smart911 provides additional information for first responders. For more information about registering visit DailyDodge.com.
