DCSO Crash Team In A State Of Limbo Following Resignations And Retirements

(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Team is currently in limbo as the department works through some personnel matters. The in-house unit, which is not mandated, investigates motor vehicle crashes with a fatality, serious injury, or a large amount of property damage, providing a detailed analysis. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says the department is going through a transitional period following a couple recent resignations and retirements. He says retaining every employee is not always possible and that things change over time. Schmidt says the State Patrol is assisting the team through the transition period and notes that there are several individuals going into training to begin the replacement process. He says relying on state investigators is not always as quick or beneficial as having a team in-house. Schmidt notes that his department has a very capable detectives division that could be tabbed for specific cases as needed.
