Davis Shines As Beaver Dam Boys Head To Sectional Final

Junior goalie Kirk Davis made saves on his back, on his belly and on his head Tuesday night as the 7th seeded Beaver Dam boys hockey team knocked off 3rd seeded Neenah 2-1 in a WIAA Division One Sectional Semifinal at the Community First Champion Center in the Fox Cities.  In all, Davis turned back 43 Rocket shots on the night as the Golden Beavers return to the Sectional Final for the 1st time since 2005.

Beaver Dam got on the board first when junior Wesley Beal beat Neenah goalie Jake Mork 7:29 into the 1st period.  Dan Smolen and Riley VanderHoeven were awarded assists on the score.  In the 2nd period the Golden Beavers doubled up their lead when Biel found VanderHoeven from behind the net to make it 2-0 at 7:39.

Neenah made a game of its early in the 3rd, when Drew Sutton, finally solved Kirk Davis and beat him on a rebound just 1:40 into the period.  Davis continues to stand tall turning back fourteen 3rd period shots to preserve the win.  Neenah (17-8-1) out-shot Beaver Dam 44-30 on the night.

The Golden Beavers (18-7-2) will ride an eight-game win streak into Friday night’s Sectional Final against #1 ranked Notre Dam Academy at the Blue Line Family Ice Center in Fond du Lac.  You’ll hear that game after Beaver Dam girls basketball on 1430 WBEV.
