Daniel Steven Hankes

Daniel Steven Hankes, age 30, passed away Friday, February 10 ,2023 of an apparent drug overdose.

Daniel was adopted by Jack and Debbie Hankes on March 17, 1999, at age 6, following a period of foster care with them. He had an outsized voice and a great laugh to go with his eccentric sense of humor. His passion was fishing, and if he could have figured out a way to monetize that he would have had heaven on earth.

He was preceded in death by his birth mother Jodi, his grandparents Louie and Jean Hankes, cousins David and Michael, and infant Eleanor Rae.

Dan is survived by his parents, Jack and Debbie Hankes, half-brother Ryan, and adoptive sisters Olivia Grace and Brianna Nicole. He is further survived by a family of about a 100 aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, at last count. Special friends John, Adam, and Marissa survive him as well.

A committal service is planned for 1:00 PM Friday, February 17, 2023 at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Beaver Dam, with Officiant John Leiting presiding. Following the service, friends and family will gather at Stooges Sports Bar, 112 N Spring St to do what we do best: Drink beer, and be friends and family. Memorials may be directed to St Katharine Drexel School or the Dodge County Food Pantry.
