Crews Douse Flare-Ups In Week-Old Barn Fire Rubble

(Waterloo) Fire crews returned to the scene of a barn fire near Waterloo early Wednesday morning. On Wednesday of last week, 13 cattle perished in a blaze at the J & R Ranch on State Highway 89 in the Town of Portland. Personnel returned around 3:30am on Wednesday, July 10th after a passerby noticed flames coming from the week-old rubble. Waterloo Fire Lt. Matt Petrie (pee-tree) says there was a lot of steel material on top of heavy timber that flared-up. Firefighters spent about one hour dousing the debris with water before clearing the scene.
