(Waupun) A nonprofit group in Waupun is closing in on its goal to acquire an important historical statue. Create Waupun, whose mission is to obtain sculptures and murals for the betterment of the city, in October announced its “We Can Do It” challenge aimed at raising funds to a purchase the iconic Rosie the Riveter sculpture.
To date, the Waupun community has raised $9,800 of $15,500 in matching funds with National Rivet and Manufacturing Company.
Officials with the nonprofit say the sculpture will not only beautify Waupun but also serve as a reminder of the vital contributions women have made, both historically, and in contemporary society. President of National Rivet and Manufacturing Company Bur Zeratsky says Waupun was a major hub for rivets critical to the war effort.
Create Waupun says their goal is to raise $31,000 by the end of the year. All funds raised will not only cover the cost of the sculpture but also contribute to its installation and ongoing maintenance.
Those interested in donating can do so by visiting Horicon Bank at 807 West Main Street in Waupun or online by clicking HERE. Donations made before December 31st are tax-deductible.
The “We Can Do It” sculpture is currently located across from the Waupun Public Safety Building at 16 East Main Street, in front of National Rivet’s main production facility.
