Columbus Man Given Jail Time For Fleeing Deputies

(Rubicon) A Columbus man was sentenced to one year in jail with work release privileges Tuesday for running from Dodge County sheriff’s deputies. Jason McDonald entered a no contest plea to a felony count of Fleeing. A second additional charge was dismissed but read into the record.

A deputy was asked by the Columbus Police Department to help locate a vehicle driven by McDonald in March. Law enforcement spotted the vehicle on Highway 151 north of County Road B and a chase ensued. The suspect vehicle reached speeds of 100 miles-per-hour before the pursuit was terminated. Fond du Lac County sheriff’s deputies spotted the same car later that night and another chase began.

The complaint said the deputy had to increase their speed to 120-miles-per-hour in order to keep up. The pursuit also ended after the suspect vehicle was observed making abrupt and unsafe lane changes, traveling into the medium, and conducting an illegal U-turn.

The 36-year-old was also placed on probation for three years.
