(Columbus) A group in Columbus is hoping to save an historic part of the city. The Columbus Theater Association is ramping up restoration efforts to restore the Columbus Auditorium located on the second floor of city hall. Association President Andrew Gile says the structure was first built in 1892 and was last used in the 1940’s. During a recent appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment, Gile broke down some of issues that need to be addressed including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, structural and roof repair, fire escape replacement, the balcony, seating and bathrooms. He says thanks to the work from earlier groups, they have an estimate of around $1.3-million dollars which would be needed to complete the project. Gile says the auditorium can be a draw for downtown Columbus and has the opportunity to bring the community closer together. Gile says the association will be working closer with city council during restoration efforts and hope to get approval for a 99 year lease. For more information contact Andrew Gile at 920-306-0887.
