(Columbus) The Columbus Fire Department has some new gear thanks to a generous donation. Fire Chief Scott Hazeltine says with the funds received from Didion Milling they were able to replace their old grain rescue device, called the Great Wall of Rescue Kit.
He says this kit is third party tested and slides together, allowing them to perform grain bin rescues more efficiently and safely. There are 12 panels included, some used to form a circle around the patient to relieve pressure and remove the grain. Hazeltine says the extra panels can be used to form a protective wall in case there is grain movement, protecting rescuers and the patient.
He says they were also able to purchase four new harnesses and rope rescue equipment to use after removal of the patient from the grain entrapment back to the ground. The chief adds that his department is grateful for the donation from Didion to help them acquire the equipment needed to better protect its citizens and neighbors.
