Columbus City, School Officials Discuss Athletic Fields
6/3/12 – Columbus Mayor Bob Link said that the future of ball fields in the City is a serious concern. In a rare meeting between City Council and School District officials the future of the athletic facilities was the lead discussion this past week. Some City-owned fields are currently used by the Schools on a regular basis. Discussions are focused on who should own and pay for field maintenance. Mayor Link said one area of the City’s concern was the condition of the football field bleachers where High School games are played. Results from a recent UW survey of City residents indicated that most people felt that those who use the facilities should pay for them. A four-person Joint Sub-Committee was formed to develop an agreement on future ownership and maintenance of recreational facilities.
