(Columbus) The Columbus City Council recently approved the job description and salary for a recreational and aquatic assistant for the city’s recreational department.
Prior to this approval, Recreation Director Amy Jo Meyers had to do most tasks by herself without assistance.
Before the job description was approved, Alderwoman Sarah Motif wondered if it would make sense to have the descriptions separated.
“When looking at your flex time [Amy Jo Meyers] and when you had the most flex time, it was during the summer,” says Motiff. “That is also the aquatic director’s busiest time.”
Alderman Adam Steiner disagreed and said it should be one position.
“Amy Jo has been able to handle all of this by herself, but it is a lot,” Steiner says. “The biggest thing with the [recreational] assistant is she’s a department head by herself. She is doing everything by herself and anything that needs heavy lifting or needs to be done, she has to beg other departments to get done.”
The council agreed upon an hourly salary range from $24 dollars to $26 dollars and 92-cents.
Responsibilities for the non-exempt position include assisting in planning and delivery of a defined activity or program, assisting with supervising, leading, and directing program staff, and abiding by the Columbus Area Aquatic Center policies and the pool rules, and all state health codes as applicable for swimming pools as well as water attractions.
