Columbia County Sets Up Cooling Shelters

(Columbus) With the high heat expected to continue into Friday, Columbia County officials have established a number of cooling shelters for the public. A few of the locations include the Columbus Community Center, the Columbus Public Library, the city hall and public library in Lodi, the Portage Public Library, as well as the Columbia County Humane Society.

Health officials say the public should limit their outdoor activity, especially midday when the sun is the hottest. They also suggest monitoring family and friends who are at high risk of heat related illnesses.

Signs of a heat stroke can include skin temperature of 103 degrees Fahrenheit, dizziness, nausea, confusion, as well as loss of consciousness.
