Columbia County Authorities Investigating Suspicious Death In Leeds Township

(Leeds) The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a person who was killed in the township of Leeds Friday night. Around 9:20pm, a female called authorities from Bradley Road reporting that her husband had been shot. The caller told dispatch that they had heard some noises in their basement and suspected someone was in their house. The woman said her husband grabbed a gun and went into the basement to check what was making the noise. Shortly after she heard a gunshot and stated that she saw her husband down the stairs dead. When deputies arrived on scene they found a 35-year-old male deceased in the basement. The woman and a young child were located unharmed, hiding in another room and were escorted outside. The Columbia County K9 unit searched the surrounding area but no one was found. Sheriff Roger Brandner says this is an active and ongoing investigation into a “suspicious death.” An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of extended family. Brandner is asking the public for information or if anyone saw anything out of the ordinary from 8pm and 10pm Friday night in the area near County Highway C and Highway 60.
