(West Point) One suspect is in custody and two others are still at large after Columbia County authorities broke up an active burglary early Wednesday morning. A sheriff’s deputy was patrolling a subdivision in West Point around 12:30am and located a vehicle with its motor running, head lights off, and a handgun laying on the front seat. Additional law enforcement responded to assist when a suspect, who had illegally entered into a home, found car keys, and began fleeing the scene. The suspect was able to elude officers after the vehicle was disabled and fled on foot. Another suspect connected to the burglaries was not located but a 19-year-old Madison teen was taken into custody. Two handguns were recovered from the scene. Those who live in and near the Selwood subdivision are asked to contact the Columbia Sheriff’s Office at 920-742-4166 if they notice anything missing.
