Colleagues Shocked, Saddened By Death Of Council President

9/12/17 – Heartfelt condolences continue to come in from colleagues of Beaver Dam Common Council President Don Neuert, who passed away unexpectedly over the weekend. Alderwoman Lisa Davidson, who succeeded Neuert in April as chair of the city’s Administrative Committee, says she and her family were deeply saddened to learn of Don’s death. Davidson recalled that Neuert took the time to help her learn about city government when she was first elected and had a passion for improving the health of the community. She says council meetings will not be the same without him adding that his leadership and friendship will leave a void. Operations Committee Chair Robert Ballweg says he was shocked, saddened and speechless after learning of Don’s passing. Ballweg said of Neuert that he was one of the alderpersons that he and other elected officials could rely on for insightful discussions. Ballweg says he was proud to have served with Don as a colleague but mostly as a friend. Library Administrator Sue Mevis says Neuert was very supportive of the library over the years and his presence at meetings will be missed. Mayor Becky Glewen called Neuert a “great representative for the citizens of Beaver Dam and a very positive, supportive influence.” Glewen says she will “miss his valuable insight and especially his friendship.” Everyone who reached out to us made it a point to say that their thoughts and prayers are with Don’s wife Kelly and daughter Hanna during this difficult time. A memorial gathering will be held at 4pm Friday at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church in Beaver Dam followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 6pm.
