Charges Filed Against Beaver Dam Man Accused Of Failing To Return To The Jail

(Juneau) Charges have been filed against a Beaver Dam man who is accused of failing to return to the jail. Michael Kirk is facing a felony count of Escape.

Sheriff’s officials notified the public last Thursday evening that Kirk did not report back to the jail from work release. According to the complaint, law enforcement learned that day the 36-year-old was fired from his job and was not authorized to be released.

Officials received a tip Friday morning that Kirk had reportedly checked into the Holiday Inn Express in Beaver Dam. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Beaver Dam Police Department and Dodge County Human Services, made contact with him at his hotel room around 9:30am.

Authorities say Kirk barricaded himself inside his hotel room. It was reported that a sheriff’s office negotiator was able to successfully talk Kirk out of his room and he was taken into custody peacefully at around 12:40pm.

Kirk was in jail due to being convicted of felony Bail Jumping and two counts of Criminal Damage to Utility’s Property in 2021. If convicted, Kirk faces up to an additional six years in prison.
