(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce held their annual dinner Wednesday night honoring community members and businesses.
Citizen of the Year is Kraig Kasten, who has “spent the majority of his life in Beaver Dam, having grown up in Horicon and moving to “the big city” of Beaver Dam after a short stint in Milwaukee He has worked for major employers and small businesses in the community and has owned his own businesses. Throughout all his working career he has been a generous supporter of dozens of local charitable and nonprofit organizations. He has an unparalleled history as a volunteer, committing hundreds of hours a year, every year for local organizations.”
The Business of the Year is Hometown Glass and Improvement, which has roots in Beaver Dam dating back to 1955. The Chamber says of the company “has been a quiet supporter, with time talent and treasure of many local nonprofit organizations. The ownership of the Nowicki family has never sought recognition for their contributions but have always been motivated by what would be good for the community. The family and management have led by example in their volunteerism.”
The Nonprofit of the Year is Community Care Preschool and Child Care. The Chamber says the “award-winning, nonprofit daycare service that has moved the bar on credentialing of staff for this type of facility.”
New this year, an award for the Citizen Who Has Left A Legacy. That honor goes to Nancy Zieman, who passed away two years ago. It was accepted by her husband Rich Zieman. Nancy Zieman was founder of Nancy’s Notions and host of the long-running public broadcasting television show “Sewing With Nancy.”
