Cash Bond Set At $5K For Portage Man Charged With Fleeing Beaver Dam Police

(Beaver Dam) Cash bond was set at $5,000 Monday for a Portage man charged with running from Beaver Dam police. Ralph Czuczko made his initial appearance in court on a felony count of Fleeing. A Beaver Dam officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in late July for expired plates. The car initially stopped in the 100 block of East Maple Avenue but when the officer knocked on the window it accelerated away at a high rate of speed. During the pursuit, police noted that the car did not stop for a stop sign and reached speeds of 100 miles-per-hour. The chase ended after roughly four-and-a-half miles when the vehicle stalled in the middle of a cornfield near County Road W. The driver and a passenger both fled on foot and were not located by authorities. Law enforcement did find an ID in the vehicle belonging to the passenger who reportedly identified Czuczko as the driver when later questioned by investigators. According to the criminal complaint, Czuczko did have a warrant for his arrest at the time of the pursuit. If convicted, the 54-year-old faces three-and-a-half years in prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 24th.
