Cash Bond Set At $500K For Mayville Man Charged In Weekend Stabbing Incident

(Mayville) Cash bond was set at $500,000 Wednesday for a Mayville man charged in connection with a weekend stabbing. Hensy Gabriel Cortez-Hernandez is facing a felony charge of Aggravated Battery and Intimidating a Witness. State prosecutors requested that the court set cash bond at $500,000 before Judge Martin De Vries granted the request.

The Mayville Police Department responded to the 100 block of Allen Street around 3am Sunday. Officers found Salvador Meza-Gonzalez of Mayville with cuts to his head, neck and hands. The 29-year-old was transported by Mayville EMS to Marshfield Medical Center – Beaver Dam and then to UW Hospital in Madison where, at last word, he was recovering from his injuries.

Meza-Gonzalez told authorities that he met his attacker at a local tavern earlier that evening. Mayville police were able to develop suspect information with assistance from neighboring agencies and the state crime lab. The suspect was found hiding in a freezer in the basement of his Mayville residence around 11:20am the same day.  The 33-year-old will be back in court next month for a preliminary hearing.
