(Clyman) Cash bond was set at $10,000 for a Janesville man charged with running from Dodge County authorities. Johnny Shawver is facing felony counts of Fleeing, Second-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, and Possession With Intent to Deliver Cocaine.
Around 11pm on New Yearโs Eve, the sheriffโs office was notified by law enforcement in Jefferson County that they were in pursuit of a vehicle heading towards Dodge County. The suspect was located on Highway 26 near Wilson Road, kicking off a chase that lasted over 26 miles ranging from 65 to 100 miles-per-hour.
The suspect nearly struck a deputyโs squad during the pursuit and blew through at least five stop signs, according to the complaint. The driver, reportedly identified as Shawver, drove down a dead-end road where he exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
The 35-year-old was quickly located and taken into custody. A search of the vehicle yielded a bag weighing over 42 grams and allegedly tested positive for cocaine.
If convicted, Shawver faces up to 53-and-a-half-years in prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Thursday.
