Candidates Discuss The Issues At Beaver Dam Chambers Spring Election Forum

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce Spring Election Candidates Forum was held Wednesday evening at the Veterans Center. The candidates for Beaver Dam school board fielded questions from the media on the voucher program and school safety; questions from the public included planning for future needs to accommodate a potential surge of new students and improving test scores in an age of standardized testing. The school board candidates asked questions among themselves on topics ranging from their thoughts on collective bargaining to addressing building repairs without going to referendum.

There are three contested races on the Beaver Dam Common Council in Wards Three, Five and Seven and the candidates grilled each other on road funding, new fire stations and pools. The media asked about the reducing the size of the council and mandating sidewalks with all new construction. while the public asked the aldermanic candidates about the effectiveness of the city’s demerit point ordinance for liquor licenses and downtown revitalization.
