7/28/11 – A Fond du Lac County man who reported a plane crash that never happened was not totally off-base. The F-A-A said a small plane was indeed in the area. And it made a sharp turn and then flew below the agency’s radar, a mile-and-a-half from where a farmer saw the craft go down. The farmer said he was driving early Tuesday afternoon when he saw the plane drop at a 45-degree angle into a wooded area near his farm at Mount Calvary, east of Fond du Lac. Authorities spent several hours looking for the craft, but never found anything. Another search was about to begin again Wednesday when the F-A-A called sheriff’s deputies to say what happened. As it turned out, the craft made a safe landing at Oshkosh, at the site of the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Air Venture Show.
